THE GREATEST LOVE STORY EVER TOLD (1 OF 6)
The Greatest Love Story Ever Told (1 of 6)
Series: Hosea
Michael White
Hosea 3
My children love fairy tales. One of their favorite things to do is sit on a lap and read a picture book about princesses and knights and true love.
One of their favorites is sleeping beauty where this beautiful little girl is cursed by the evil witch malificent- and these fairies try to hide her until her 16th birthday. Unfortunately, maleficent finds her, pricks her finger with a spinning wheel, and she helplessly falls into this indefinite sleep.
However, a handsome young prince comes along, fights and defeats Maleficent (who has since turned into a dragon), and finds the princess sleeping soundly.
So he gives her true loves kiss and she immediately wakes up and the kingdom is restored- they get married and live happily ever after. However one dimensional these stories sometimes are, we love them. We are captivated by the heroism and sacrifice. We are intrigued by the magic, the suspense, and the romance. But there is one story that stands out above all the rest- but it is no fairy tale- its the romance of God and his people- it is the deepest and richest love story you will ever encounter.
It begins with mankind being tempted by a serpent- a dragon so to speak- and falling into sin. God in his love pursues us in our sin. He invades the world as a conquering messiah King and gives his life for us- defeats the power of the dragon- and restores us to himself.
It's the old old story- of Jesus and his love. There are many love stories but this one is altogether unique.Because Jesus isn't some Knight in shining armor who comes to rescue a beautiful princess in distress- Jesus invades the world, sacrifices himself- to rescue- an ungrateful whore. It's almost embarrassing to say that word- and I wouldn't normally use it- But that's exactly how the Bible describes us. We are no sleeping beauty. Before Christ rescued us- we were spiritual prostitutes.
