WHEN REPENTANCE IS REAL (2 OF 6)
When Repentance is Real (2 of 6)
Series: Hosea

Hosea 6
james Montgomery Boice tells the story of A convict who was released from a Kansas prison after serving seven years for fraud. Upon his release he immediately acquired someone else's credit cards and went on a spending spree that took him across the state in first-class hotels, gourmet restaurants, and private planes.
He was caught and brought to trial. In court the man confessed what he had done. But he asked the judge to pardon him on the ground that he had now learned his lesson. ''It was wrong,'' he said. ''I know that now, and I will never do anything like that again.''
The judge was unimpressed. He said, ''I have learned that courtroom confessions last only until the criminal gets to the door.'' Then he committed the man to prison again.
Real Repentance is more than words. It's backed up by a changed life.
Repentance is a very old fashioned sounding- kind unpopular word- but it is a biblical word. In hebrew the word is Shuv- it means to turn. You are running in one direction and you completely turn around. Everything changes. It's not merely a change of thinking or belief- or even feeling sorry about something.
It's a complete change of life and behavior.
Repentance is when someone who was previously a drunkard pours his alcohol down the drain and lives soberly.
Repentance is when a lazy person becomes disciplined and works hard.
Repentance is when you resolve to stop gossiping and instead uplift and edify others.
In a word repentance means transformation. Life change.
So we'll begin with our statement this morning:
Statement: When repentance is real my life is transformed.

God calls a man named Hosea to marry a woman he knew would become a prostitute-
