Scripture: Acts 13:26-39

Gospel: The Resurrection
Michael White
Acts 13:26-39

Now prior to reading this passage I'd like to note that Acts 13:26-39 is part of Paul's first recorded sermon. Obviously this was not his first ever sermon. He had been a Jewish rabbi and professor at the university of Jerusalem- and since becoming a Christian had likely preached many sermons before. But doctor Luke, who wrote the book of Acts through the inspiration of the holy spirit- Chose to include this sermon as an example of his preaching- and the very content of the Gospel.

and the last few weeks we have been describing the Gospel. It's a simple message- that those who have faith in the substitutionary death, burial, and resurrection of Christ are forgiven of sin and reconciled to God- but there is much to unpack and we've delineated it under 4 headings- God, humanity, Christ, response.

So we've seen that God is holy and loving. He created man to have joy and fellowship with him- and bring him glory. Then we studied humanity. God he didn't make us as robots. he gave us a will- to choose good or evil.

And as we know, we chose evil. And everything thing that is summed up in the desires, emotions, will, and intellect of man is thoroughly affected by evil, which we call sin.

Sin separates us from God and brings upon our heads condemnation- an eternity separated from God in torment. So we're in this awful predicament with no hope on our own to overcome it- but God provides a solution for forgiveness and reconciliation. And that solution is Christ.

We've seen that Jesus is God from John 1. That he lived and died for us in Romans 6- and this morning we'll see that Christ did not merely die and stay in the grave- but he was raised to life. And through this resurrection- we can have forgiveness of sin.

So let's read Paul's sermon on the resurrection- and I will unpack it as you will hear a sermon on a sermon.
