Wisdom for life
Michael White
Proverbs 6:1-19
Morning Church! Please turn to proverbs 6. Most of the book of proverbs was written by a King named Solomon who lived about 3000 years ago- who was renown for his wisdom ?As we learned last week how the book of Proverbs contrasts the wise man and the fool.
You have the fool, who is basically a self-absorbed person- demands immediate gratification, and lacks sense.
You familiar with the expression YOLO- you only live once? What a person does after that is always something foolish!
Then you have the wise person- a wise person considers the consequences of a given action, has discernment, and plans for the future.
Wisdom is basically skill at life. It's not only having knowledge but the ability to apply that knowledge.

So by way of introduction let's read these concluding verses- then we'll go back through the beginning of the chapter verse by verse. So we start at the end then we'll head back:
20 My son, keep your father's commandment,
and forsake not your mother's teaching.
21 Bind them on your heart always;
tie them around your neck.
22 When you walk, they will lead you;
when you lie down, they will watch over you;
and when you awake, they will talk with you.
23 For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light,
and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life,
What he's saying is- trust and apply the wisdom of your parents- and the wisdom of God/ Let's ask God's help as we study it.
PRAY
''If you don't have time to do it right, you definitely don't have time to do it twice!''
That axiom pretty much summarizes the philosophy of my father in law- because he continually reinforces it by ex ...
