If you have your Bibles with you now this evening, if you will be finding your place once again at the beginning book in your Bible. We are picking up tonight where we left off last week in our series of studies through the book of Genesis that we have entitled ''The Book of Beginnings: Creation, Fall, Flood, and Covenant''.
Really, as you go through the book of Genesis, you will find, and we have detailed and listed these for you, numerous different ways, in this series. If you'll think about it, we have been here for months and months now, and we are at the end of chapter four. And we're going to be here til Jesus comes back.
As you go through the beginning book of the Bible, what you will notice is that there are so many firsts. Really, as you take the book of Genesis and as you understand it and read it and study it, you know you have what about - uh, lets see, that's more than I thought...well, you have bunch of chapters in the book of Genesis!
The book of Genesis covers about 2200 years, and yet, if you take the first 11 chapters, it covers about 1800 years and so as you come to the book of Genesis again, you have the first 1800 years in the first 11 chapters.
Here in the very first few chapters, you find the first human. His name was Adam. You find the first woman. Her name was Eve. You find the first human to be born. His name was Cain. The first human to die. His name was Abel. The first illustration of human religion. Those fig leaves that were sewn to cover up man's nakedness. You find the first example of divine redemption. Those tunics, or cloaks, if you will, I told you before that they were made of sheep, the lambs, if you will, that God took and killed and used as a covering. They were garments of grace to cover up the guilt of Adam and Eve.
