JESUS CHRIST, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No
one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).
That statement has caused some persons to go to great lengths to
try to explain it away. It has angered some. It has resulted
in the salvation of many.
Interpretation of Scripture is critical to one's faith and
practice. Some persons complain that the Bible can be
interpreted any way you want to. Truthfully, it can't. In the
matter of interpretation every verse has only one
interpretation. Each may have many different applications.
Problems have arisen in persons thinking an application is the
true interpretation. As a result, different denominations have
arisen. This is an unfortunate fact, BUT it is a fact.
With the greatest of love for those of my many dear friends who
are my brothers and sisters in Christ of other denominations, I
want to attempt to explain what is so distinctive about being a
Baptist. In doing so many who are not Baptists are going to say,
"I also believe that!" That is marvelously true because some of
these truths are so foundational that they do cross denomination
lines.
When I do explain a distinctive which you do not understand as
presented I challenge you to examine your belief in light of the
total teaching of God's Word on the issue.
Following are by no means all of the distinctnesses of Baptists
but they are so basic ones. For the sake of simplicity and
clarity from here on I am going to simply say, "I believe"
