Get Ready! (3 of 6)
Series: Amos
Jim Perdue
Amos 3:1-4:13
This morning, I continue a sermon series through the book of Amos. I have called this series Let Justice Roll. The title comes directly from Amos 5:24 where it says, ''Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.'' (ON SCREEN) This morning, we're looking at Amos 3 and 4 in a sermon entitled, Get Ready. READ 3:1-8; 4:1-3, 12-13 - PRAY
*When you hear those two words, ''get ready'' what do you think of? I can tell you what immediately pops into my head: the flurry of activity that occurs in the Perdue house almost every single day as we get all of the kids ready to go to school. ''You can't wear that, it doesn't match! Where are your shoes? Did you brush your teeth? Girl, your hair is a mess! Have you done your homework? Mom, do you know where my book bag is? Oh yeah, I need money for something AGAIN!'' Maybe our house is the only house that experiences that kind of craziness. But then, for some reason, there's one more day of the week that's even crazier. That's on Sunday, when we're getting ready to go to church. Oh my goodness, the flurry of activity is exponentially increased on Sunday mornings. We're trying to get seven people, four of whom are girls, out the door and in the same car to get to church on time. And I think the devil knows if he can get us messed up at our house on Sunday morning, we'll still be messed up when we get to God's house. That's one reason we work hard to get ready the night before. We lay out clothes, we put out Bibles, we get everybody's offering ready, we make sure everything is good to go...and it's still crazy!*
*Think of all the things we get ready for in life. Company is coming; we've got to get ready. The house better look nice! The football team has been practicing all week for Friday night, getting ready to square off against their rival. Oh man, it's Saturday night and I'm leading the Life Group lesson in the morning, ...
