Series: Amos

Amos 7:1-8:14
The prophecy of Amos concludes with the record of five special visions of judgment that God gave to His servant: the locusts (7:1-3), the fire (7:4-6), the plumb line (7:7-9), the basket of fruit (8:1-14), and the ruined temple (9:1-10). But these visions center on three experiences of the prophet in which Amos struggles with God and man (chap. 7), declares that judgment is coming (chap. 8) and affirms that God is working out His perfect plan (chap. 9).
This morning, I continue a sermon series through the book of Amos. I have called this series Let Justice Roll. The title comes directly from Amos 5:24 where it says, ''Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.'' (ON SCREEN) This morning, we're looking at Amos 7-8 in a sermon entitled, When Enough Is Enough. READ 7:1-9, 14-15; 8:1-3, 11-14 - PRAY

But by the time dinner is over, the bottle is almost empty. I've noticed that our kids don't quite know when enough is enough. They take the bottle and pour syrup all over their pancakes or waffles, and then they move to their eggs, bacon, and sausage. Finally, one of the adults in the room has to say, ''That's enough!'' By that time, there's this pool of brown, gooey syrup all over the plate. Because you know they don't hear you the first time. Then, the whole meal basically becomes dessert because you've got food covered with liquid candy. For me, that sounds delicious, but we all know it's not healthy.*
