''Whoa Nellie''

Keith Jackson was one of the most noted sports broadcasters and was infamous for the phrase ''Whoa Nellie'' which was something that he did say on random occasions, but maybe as not as much as some think.

He told Dan Patrick that he had learned the phrase from his grandfather, Jefferson Davidson Roberson, who would use the phrase in moments of frustration or when something unexpected occurred. In time Keith Jackson became closely linked to this phrase.

In our sermon today we are going to see things begin to occur in the life of Joseph, which seem to happen in rapid fire succession. Joseph is merely along for the ride, though he could have resisted the path that God allowed him to go down, he was willfully obedient and submissive.

The phrase ''whoa Nellie'' implies hang on, this was unexpected, maybe even unwanted, but hang on for the duration of the ride.

I will never forget when I was around 14 years old, we were bored and a bunch of us boys decided to ride an appaloosa pony, but first we had to catch it.

The pony was literally wild and nobody ever rode it or possibly nobody could ride it. We tried and tried to catch this pony, until finally we cornered it and placed a rope around its neck.

Now, someone had to be brave enough to ride the pony, of course without a saddle. We took turns of sitting on the back of the pony and each person would be led around the field.
