Let's open our bibles to Luke 1. The longer you live the more you realize there are things we see, feel, or experience in life that are extremely difficult to understand...hard to put our mind around.

Sometimes, I feel like the little boy who, for months, had noticed his mother's stomach increasing in size. It got to the point there was no room on her lap for him. Finally, he said, ''Mommy, why is your belly so big?'' She explained his little sister was inside her. Horrified, he asked, ''Mommy, why is my little sister inside your stomach?'' She tried to alleviate his obvious concern by telling him he used to be in her stomach as well. That night, when his dad tucked him into bed, the little boy quietly said: ''Daddy, I have two questions: First, why does Mommy keep eating little kids? And second, how did I escape?'' No matter your age or experience, life is packed with stuff that is tough to comprehend.

When it comes to the biblical version of how the very first Christmas unfolded, many people have difficulty believing it. Why? Because it involves moments and miracles that seem more like fantasy island than a factual account. The very things that make the Christmas story special also make it suspect. I mean, you've got a talking angel, a pregnant virgin, a prophetic dream, a divine baby, and a supernatural star. Lowly shepherds become heroic missionaries and pagan astrologers quit their jobs, leave their homes, and walk for months to a place they've never been, to find people they've never met, to worship a child they'll never see again. Bizarro, right? Multiple parts and pieces of the Christmas narrative appear absolutely absurd.
