Titus 2
So, if you've got your Bibles with you now tonight, Titus 2, picking up in verse number one. We're in a series of studies that we've entitled ''Our Man in Crete.'' We're studying Paul's letter to Titus. This is a tremendous letter. I've grown to love this young man by the name of Titus. I'm sitting there on the front row, thinking about all my years when I first started out as a pastor.
By the way, did you notice tonight we've got guys doing things that they normally have not done? Brother Michael got to do the opening prayer; he got to do the welcome. We're stretching them a little bit. And then Brother John got to come up here and lead in the prayer time of the offering. We're stretching them, we're teaching them. On Wednesday night, Tyler; isn't he doing a great job on Wednesday night preaching this summer? Amen, church? Let them know they're doing a great job. We're excited about that.
I remember when I was just a young man called to my very first church there in Atoka, Tennessee. It was a new church; they'd just been started a couple of years. They had gotten up to about 120; then they had a good old fashioned Baptist church fight. Can I get an amen in the house? And half of them moved across the street and started meeting in the pastor's garage. And so I was called there to that first church and it was a mess in a lot of ways. Thirty six there that first Sunday, counting babies, cats, dogs, and everybody.
And so, I understand where Titus is. Paul has mentored him. He has served with Paul. As a matter of fact, the Bible tells us a lot about Titus. We're not really told when and where he was saved, but he's been mentored; he's been ministering with the Apostle Paul. He's mentioned nine times in the book of 2 Corinthians. Not mentioned in Acts for some reason, but he had traveled with Paul on Paul's second missionary journey.
And Paul loved him. ...
