INTRODUCTION: At the funeral service for John McCain in September of 2018, cameras caught a moment of kindness that went ''viral'' when George W. Bush passed a cough-drop to Michelle Obama. The touching moment was recreated at the funeral for George H. W. Bush in November of 2018. The power of a simple act of kindness can hardly be over-estimated.
We're in a sermon series entitled ''Re-gifting Christmas'' wherein we're thinking about the gifts that we have received from God and which are worthy of regifting to others. So far we've talked about regifting forgiveness and encouragement. Today I want to discuss regifting kindness.
Let's talk about four ways that we can re-gift the kindness of God.
I. ADOPT A KIND ATTITUDE
Ephesians 4:32 ''Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.''
Most of us will admit that if we are to become truly kind people we need to experience a change of attitude. That starts with the bedrock conviction that through Christ, God has expressed his kindness to us. God has treated us with kindness, most often referred to in the Bible as his GOODNESS or LOVE.
God's basic attitude toward his creation is one of benevolence, kindness, and good will. He is kind and friendly toward his creatures; he wills and desires to bless us and do good for us. He is good TO US. He has a generous spirit, a spirit of giving and sharing and blessing, a spirit of affection and good will. He cares for the welfare of his creatures.
God's kindness is directed not just toward human beings but toward the whole of creation. He supplies rain just ''for his world'' (Job 37:13). Ps.145:9,15-16 ''The Lord is good to all, and His mercies are over all His works ...
