Wise Men Still Seek Him

Matthew 2:1-12
The characters of Christmas can teach us a great deal about the meaning of Christmas. Their response teaches us what Christmas can mean to us individually and personally in our own lives.
-Proverbs 13:30, ''He that walks with the wise men shall be wise.'' We would do well to follow their example.
-We know so little about the wise men. We know they must have traveled a great distance. If they were from Babylon, they traveled at lease 300 miles. That is a long way to travel on camels. They faced dangers along the way. They faced difficulty when they met Herod. But they were on a mission and they overcame obstacles to get to Jesus.
-We are not sure how many they were. We say three because of the gifts they brought. We do not know their names, although some traditional names were given to them later. They were scientists who studied astrology. They glide into the Christmas scene, present their gifts, worship the new born king and then silently slip away.
1. THE TRUTH THEY SOUGHT.
Pilate asked a question a long time ago. ''What is truth?'' In life, truth is often mixed with error. It is sometimes hard to tell one from the other.
''Jesus said, ''I am the truth...'' We can find truth if we seek truth. There are people who still seek Jesus. However, as you know, many people are not seeking Jesus.
-''Where is He who is born King of the Jews?''
-I think this is the first question asked in the NT. It ought to be the first question we ask in life. Where is Jesus? Where can I find Jesus? How can I find Jesus?
- ''Seek ye the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near...''
-It is an individual question.

-They were experts. They were scientists. They were astrologers. Some find it difficult for a scholar to come to Jesus. Not so. Jesus appeals to the wise and unwise, the nobleman and the peasant.
