We are entering that time of year when we place special emphasis on missions. Therefore, I will be giving a rationale for giving to missions. There is something wrong with a Baptist preacher who does not preach on giving. Amen!

I heard about a man who had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. He was placed in ICU and could only have a few visitors. While he was in there, his uncle died and left him a million dollars. The family didn't want to tell him, so they got the preacher to do it for them. They felt he would know how to handle it. The preacher slipped into his conversation with the man, ''What would you do if you inherited a million dollars?'' The man thought and said, ''I would give half of it to the church.?The preacher fell over dead with a heart attack.

Paul commends the Philippians for their faithfulness in supporting his mission work. He praised them for their consistency and sacrifice.

What is the rationale for supporting missions?

1.MISSION SUPPORT IS MANDATED BY CHRIST.

The Great Commission commands us to go into all the world and make disciples.

In Acts 1:8, Jesus informs his disciples that they would be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.

Jesus came to earth on a mission. ''For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.''

In 2 Corinthians 5:18-21, PAUL SAID, ''God has given us the ministry of reconciliation. We are ambassadors for Christ.'' His mission is to be our mission.

We are commanded by the Risen Lord who has jurisdiction all over the world to be on mission.

The Great Commission ends with ''To the ends of the earth...'' He left this world with missions on his mind.

2.MISSION SUPPORT IS MANDATED BY CONSCIENCE.
