Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery because he shared his dream with them. He became a steward of Potipher, the captain of the Pharaoh's bodyguards. He saw that God prospered everything Joseph did. So, he became his personal servant. He trusted him with everything. Potifer's wife was struck by this good-looking winsome man. She seduced him. He rejected her advances. She screamed and reported that he violated her. He was placed in prison for two years.

But God was with him in prison. The chief jailer made a trustee out of him. Pharaoh's cupbearer and his baker were thrown in the same jail. They both had a dream the same night. Joseph interpreted their dreams. The cupbearer would be restored to his position. The baker's dream was interpreted. He would die in three days. The cupbearer was supposed to remember Joseph. But he forgot about him when he was restored.

At the end of two full years Pharaoh had a dream. The cupbearer remembered Joseph. He interpreted the Pharaoh's dream and was made a ruler over Egypt. The dream was 7 years of feast and 7 years of famine. He stored up grain in the seven good years.

There was a famine in Israel. Jacob sent his sons to Egypt to see if they could buy some grain. Joseph recognizes them, but they do not recognize him. He kept Simeon and asked them to bring Benjamin back to him. He put the money they brought to pay for the grain back in the grain sacks as if they stole it.

We pick up the story with the brothers before Jacob. Jacob thinks Joseph is dead. Now the ruler of Egypt has Simeon and has demanded that Benjamin be brought to him. He is in a conundrum. What will he do? He tells his boys to load up some gifts.

What do you give a man who owns everything? The prime minister of Egypt did not need gold or silver. The offer of power meant nothing to him; he was sovereign over all the land. Jacob could not have offered him knowledge for he had access to all ...
