Luke 23:34
Introduction
1. Peter Senge is a system's analyst and senior lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He primarily writes and lectures on how ''What If'' scenarios can radically transform your life and bring about great change. He wrote a book that he co-authored called Presence, in which he shares this fascinating story.
2. He was leading a seminar at the World Bank when an employee, named Fred, revealed that he had been diagnosed with a terminal illness. He had been given only a few months to live. So, Fred told him that he was going to start living like he only had a few months to live. He was going to start living as if there would not be many more tomorrows.
3. Like everyone at first, he went through a period of denial. Then, Fred said, ''Something amazing happened. I simply stopped doing everything that wasn't essential, that didn't matter.'' What was important became even more important and the unimportant became even more unimportant. This is where the story gets truly amazing.
4. A few months had passed and a friend told Fred he ought to seek a second opinion. When he did, he found he had been misdiagnosed. He had a very rare disease, but it was very curable. When the doctor delivered the news, Fred cried like a baby. Do you know why? He said, ''Because I was afraid my life would go back to the way it used to be.''
5. Fred made an amazing discovery. When you begin to live like you are dying, you can't live the same way you used to. Your focus gets laser-sharp on what truly is important. I'm saying so, because what Fred had done was basically create what is known as a ''bucket list.'' A bucket list is just that. It is a list of things you want to do, before you ''kick the bucket.'' We all have them. They may not be written down, but we have all said things like, ''Before I die, I would like to...'' You would like to go to a site you have never seen. You would li ...
