Introduction

1. [Show Rambo clip]. There are two things I like about Sylvester Stallone and they both start with the letter ''r.'' Can you guess what they are? Rambo and Rocky. The reason Sylvester Stallone was so great as both of those characters is they don't have to say very much. Their actions speak louder than words. Two of the greatest words ever spoken were those we just heard by Rambo, ''Mission accomplished!'' There is nothing more satisfying in life than finishing something difficult that you set out to do. Anyone who has ever earned a PhD knows that very well.

2. It was a morning that I will never forget. It was a crisp May morning in a small pastorium, in a rural community called, ''Buck Grove, Kentucky.'' For three years, I had been researching, studying, collecting material, working on and living, eating, and sleep with a document called a ''dissertation.'' I had read from hundreds of books, articles and journals in English, French, and German.

3. For three years, never a day passed that I either wasn't studying for, or thinking about, or writing on this thesis. Remember, this was back before the days of computers, the Internet, or Word documents. I had been collecting all of my research on 5x8 notecards and keeping them in boxes. Before you think I am older than dirt, I did drive a car. I did not use a horse and buggy! It was a little past midnight on that morning and I was worn out. I started to put my pen down from writing on my legal pad and to close the box that had my 5x8 notecards in it when I noticed something.

4. I had not realized that what had been a box of several hundred notecards had now dwelled down to about 25 and then next thought was a shot of adrenaline that tore through my entire body - ''I am almost finished.'' After three years, I could finally see a light at the end, of the tunnel, and it was not a train headed in my direction. Sudde ...
