Isaiah 43:1
Isaiah 43:1 But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: ''Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
In order for us to understand what the Lord is saying to us, it is important that we understand the context.
Isaiah starts the 43rd chapter with these words, ''But now...'' If a sentence starts with ''But,'' I have to go back to see what message he is trying to get across. So, let's go back to the previous chapter:
Isaiah 42:24 Who allowed Israel to be robbed and hurt? It was the LORD, against whom we sinned, for the people would not walk in his path, nor would they obey his law. 25 Therefore, he poured out his fury on them and destroyed them in battle. They were enveloped in flames, but they still refused to understand. They were consumed by fire, but they did not learn their lesson. (NLT)
God's people sinned against Him. They wouldn't walk in His paths nor would they obey His laws. That's what caused them to be burned and defeated. They brought their own defeat upon themselves. We all know people that are wallowing in their misery and some of them feel forsaken by the Lord, but we don't have to look too far to find where the problem lies. It is in the heart. Before we came to Christ, our heart was far away from God. We didn't know Him nor did we understand the things of God. Our life was a series of sowing and reaping. In other words, when I look back now on my life before Jesus came into my heart, I was the cause of most of the issues in my life.
