Introduction: Last week we began this four-chapter transition from Abraham through Isaac to Jacob. It's a section in which we see three generations of the disfunction, hardship, adversity, and, namely, imperfection of the people of God. It's a collection of stories that really illustrates that the life of following God is not some fairytale absent of struggle. It's a collection that really illustrates that God's people themselves aren't perfect or have it all together. Really, it's a collection of events in which any one of us could find ourselves in.

But it's also a collection that shows the unceasing, never-ending, perfect, loving, covenantal faithfulness of our God.

In other words, it's a section that reminds us who the true hero of Genesis and all of history really is: God Himself. But not only is it a passage that reminds us of the goodness and sovereignty of God, it also reminds us of His good purposes to work and will in us in order to fulfill His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). In other words, God will not only bring about the redemption of this fallen world and make this creation new, but He will do the same thing in you and in me! God is faithful to His purposes, which entails our transformation and enjoyment of Him!
