Introduction: We've all got our wind-down evening routines. You know, those things we do, not just to finish up the day, but to help us unwind and get ready to fall asleep. I had a friend in college who always washed their feet right before bed. I mean, sure it's nice to have clean feet to put in your bed, but they did it mostly because it was relaxing; it really helped them fall asleep. If you're my wife, it's checking her phone in bed. Boy nothing puts her to sleep so quickly as lying in bed, with her phone in her hands. I have to take it out of her hands each night and put it away for her. That's part of my wind-down routine.

The bedrock of my routine, however, is usually turn on the T.V. and watching something. Teresa falls asleep so early that many nights we'll get in the bed at 8pm and I've still got an hour left in me. Moreover, as many of you could probably guess, it takes me a while to shut down the old noggin, so I'll find something on Netflix. I can't watch sports in the evening, kind of wakes me back up. The same thing is true with a lot of drama or documentaries that get my mind going.

Instead, the best thing to watch and unwind to is a little classic PBS show called, ''The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross''. I'm telling you, that show is my jam. Teresa thinks it's so weird, but I love it. It relaxes me but it's entertaining. It's fascinating how he'll start by painting something that looks just awful and do something else that makes no sense, and you're watching this and you're like, 'This is the ugliest thing I've ever seen,' and then all of the sudden he'll do one thing and 'Boom' it's a masterpiece and you're like, 'Holy cow, how did he do that? How did we get here?' I love it; it's so much fun to watch. I mean, no doubt, the finished product is beautiful, but, for me, watching the painting unfold is ...
