Face-to-Face with Spiritual Battles

Jim had everything: money, popularity, political clout in his community, and a reputation as a man of peerless character. He had everything except one thing -- a stuffed grizzly bear for the phenomenal game room in his home.
One day, Jim decided he would fulfill his dream. He made plans, set out for his destination, and arrived with the anticipation that he would soon capture his prize.
He sensed that he was getting close. Sure enough, as Jim turned the corner on a narrow, winding path up the side of a mountain, he found himself face-to-face with the biggest grizzly bear he had ever seen. Calm and cool, Jim raised his gun. Before he could pull the trigger, his foot slipped. The gun went flying as he fell off the side of the cliff, managing to save himself by catching the edge of the cliff with the tips of his fingers. Scrambling back to the trail, he was in a real predicament, for the grizzly bear attacked.
Jim turned to run down the hill as fast as he could, the bear in hot pursuit. As he neared the bottom of the mountain, he slipped again, this time tumbling head over heels through the short grass. He ended up on his knees.
In addition to being rich, brave, and astute, Jim was also religious. Realizing he was on his knees and the grizzly bear was on his trail, he thought this would be a good time to pray. He bowed his head, held his hands together, and began to pray, ''Oh Lord, please let this be a Christian bear.''
When Jim opened his eyes, he realized that the bear, too, was kneeling beside him, head bowed, paws folded in prayer. ''Praise the Lord!'' Jim cried. ''It is a Christian bear.''
Suddenly, he realized what the bear was praying. ''Lord, bless this food I am about to eat to the nourishment of my body.'' Regardless -- a bear is a bear.
