JESUS CHRIST is spoken of in I Cor. 3:11 in a commendable
manner: "No other foundation can anyone lay than that which is
laid, which is Jesus Christ."
Who or what is the foundation on which all of your life is
built? That is, upon who or what are you depending? Upon who
or what are you relying?
Our text deals with our foundation. Note:
I.COUNSEL REGARDING THE FRAILTIES OF LIFE
There are certain things which are intended to be blessings
which are often improperly received and unfortunately depended
upon. Sometimes our security leads to false security.
In a cramped residence where 3 children had to sleep in a bed
together, the Dad asked his little daughter if she had said her
prayers. Her reply, "I don't need to tonight Dad. "I'm sleeping
in the middle." Circumstances may have you feeling as smug as
one sleeping in the middle, but you still need the Lord. That
in itself is all the more reason to praise Him.
There is counsel --
A. To the Mentally Rich - They are "not to be haughty". Verses
4 and 5 describe such persons and how to relate to them. Don't
thing of yourself as superior to others. Avoid egotism at all
cost. Don't be a contentious person but a contributor. The
person who mans the oars doesn't rock the boat.
In a humorous vein, there is a story about an athlete beinggiven
one last chance and one last question in order to pass a course.
The question: "Figure out how many seconds there are in a
year?" His answer: "Twelve." "Twelve?" "Yes, January second,
