EXPRESSING THANKS BY LIVING
PSALMS 81:10 - 16

JESUS CHRIST whose life was in the crucible of crisis paused on
the eve of His execution and broke bread with His disciples.
With a clear awareness of what awaited, in company with one who
would betray Him, one who would deny Him, and others who would
forsake Him, He broke the bread and gave thanks.
When you are prone to moan about your circumstances, a sure way
to give yourself an uplift is to give thanks. It directs your
attention to the Lord. It ultimately results in your devotion
to Him. In the interim, it enables you to focus on what good
there is.
Only half of the Pilgrims survived the first harsh winter of
their new home and lived to harvest their first crop. They
remembered the joy of "harvest-home" in England, and reflected
on "the feast of the ingathering," kept by their old friends
whose God was the Lord. Fifty settlers and 90 Indians spent 3
days celebrating and giving thanks. They did it, not because
times were good, but because they knew God was.
Psalms 81 gives insight into opportunity for choice regarding
thanksgiving or resentment. Note:
I.THE SPIRITUAL APPETITE WHICH GOD DEVELOPS (Vs. 10b)
In ancient eastern lands, kings out of regard and respect for
favored guests would stuff the guests mouth with as many jewels
as possible. The Pslamist used this well known experience to
imply you are favored by God who wants to bestow blessings
onyou.
