CONCERN: WHO SHARES IT!
JOHN 19: 26, 27
JESUS CHRIST hung on the cross while the mob mocked. At Calvary
the religious rules revealed. At Calvary the soldiers scoffed.
The crowd jeered. Am id that panorama of passionless prattle,
Jesus Christ scanned the scene until His gaze was fixed on one
person - Mary.
His first word was for His enemies - "Father forgive them..."
His second word was for a new convert - "Today shalt thou be
with me..."
Having just provided a heavenly home for a dying thief, He now
turns to prepare an earthly residence for His earthly mother.
Mary stood "by the cross" = near it. She was the first at the
cradle and the last at the cross. Various other gospel writers
give us insight into the composition of her entourage.
1.Mary - Jesus' mother
2.Salome - Mary's sister, mother of James & John (flashback,
"Grant that my sons may sit one on thy left and one on they
right...")
3.Mary - wife of Cleopas, sons were James the Lesser, and Jose =
Joseph.
4.Mary Magdalene
I.THE MOTHER'S PAIN DEMONSTRATES STEADFASTNESS
Of her the angel Gabriel said, "God has highly favored you..."
She had taught Him to behold the lilies, to observe thefowls of
the air, and always see the good in the worst.
Mary: "I am the handmaiden of the Lord, be it unto me according
to they words."
At His birth Simeon said: "A sword shall pierce through thy own
soul..."

soldier has gambled for and won His sandals, another His head
piece, yet another His leather girdle, still another His outer
