Why We Don't Have Victory In Our Lives

Joshua 17:12-18
When you read the above verses -- you will discover you are under one of three states. 1. Egypt 2. Wilderness 3. Canaan
EGYPT
Look to see how the children of Israel had reached their present position. You see -- the Israelites had started their journey in the land of Egypt -- the land of bondage. In the land of Egypt -- there is no victory because there is slavery there.
Have you ever been to a prison? Perhaps you have just driven by one. You see prisoners standing around -- playing basketball -- lifting weights -- but you don't see a lot of jumping around -- you don't hear, ''Boy, this is so much fun!'' Why? Because they are in prison.
When the children of Israel were in Egypt -- they were in prison. Their master was Pharaoh. They did what he said -- when he said it -- how he said it -- they were under his orders. A restricted life with no victory!
There are some of you who are not having victory in your life -- not because you aren't trying -- not because you don't want victory -- but you are not having victory because you are still in the land of Egypt.
Pharaoh is not your task master -- but it is Satan. He is the one that tells you what to do. He tells you how to do it. He tells you when to do it. You obey him because you do not have the power to overcome him.
This the picture of someone who has never trusted in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. You live a good life -- try to obey the 10 Commandments -- live by the golden rule -- and though those are worthy goals -- they aren't good enough.
WILDERNESS
This is where those people have come out of Egypt and they have broken the chains, but they haven't tasted of real victory. They are in a state of wandering. Their life is so mundane. And yet, they call themselves Christians.
You spend a great deal of time trying to ''work it up.'' The family, especially, know it. Ask the children.
