Open your Bibles to Mark 2. I'm so excited about what I get to share with you today. I believe God has been burning a vision within me for the mission of Waypoint Church for well over a year, and I finally get to start letting it out. Ha. You didn't think we were just gonna slap a new name on the side of the building and call it good and go back to business as usual, right? No, of course not. Last week we enjoyed a wonderful celebration. Wasn't that fun? Over 2,800 folks showed up for worship, donuts, and swag bags. It was awesome. I couldn't have been happier about how it all turned out.
But today we turn from the celebration of Waypoint Church to the vision for Waypoint Church.
Let me just say if you call Waypoint home or you're seriously considering being a part of our family, you don't want to miss any of the next five Sundays. You're going to hear about where we're headed over the next two years, which I believe, will set the trajectory of our church for the next two decades. It's big. It's bold. It's exciting. Most importantly, it's going to take every Waypointer to get it done!
Our Mission: ''We are a Gospel-Centered Church making disciples of Jesus Christ.''
That's both our identity and our activity. That's why we're here; that's what we're do. But it's one thing to have a mission; it's quite another thing to be accomplishing it. The truth is every local church with any sense in their heads and a bible in their hands knows the mission of the church is to make disciples of Jesus. But sadly, there are few accomplishing it. 95% of American churches are either declining or plateaued. Why? What's the problem?
- While many Christians have memorized the mission, they have not personalized it.
- They see themselves as symbols of grace, but not soldiers of Christ.
