Ok Waypoint let's open our bibles to 1 Timothy 6. What I'm about to say may seem like I'm trying to overhype or oversell, but it's absolutely true. This is my 25th year as a pastor, and without a doubt it is the most exciting, the most incredible, the most electric time of ministry I have ever been a part of.
Thankfully there are others who feel the same way. A longtime member of our church said to me the other day: I hope people take a moment to realize and appreciate that for most of us this is a once in a lifetime experience.'' I couldn't agree with him more.
Last week we started a five-week series called Beyond Us. But Beyond Us isn't just a sermon series; it is a two-year discipleship initiative that will help us expand our mission of being 'Gospel centered church making disciples of Jesus Christ'. Beyond Us is our vision to help all of us to understand what it looks like to live, give, and serve Beyond Ourselves.
The primary goal of Beyond Us is 100% participation. We are praying that everyone who calls Waypoint their church family will evaluate where they are on their spiritual journey with Jesus, and then take bold steps to move forward. It's going to look different for each of us because we're all at different places and levels in our spiritual maturity. That's fine. The point of Beyond Us isn't to get us all to the same level. The point is to challenge, grow, and move every disciple forward. Discipleship is not a destination. It's a journey. The key to a good journey is you keep moving forward. No matter how long you've been a Christian, there is always room for growth. You're not done until you're dead!
So, we're praying every person who calls Waypoint their church family will feel God challenging them to move forward and learn even more how live, give, and serve Beyond Themselves.
