1 Chronicles 29:1-9

Let's open God's Word together to 1 Chronicles 29.

I was having a really nice conversation with a young man in our church a couple months ago, and he said one of the most refreshing things I've heard in a while. It was refreshing because it was raw, real, and it's something rarely ever spoken. Without any hint of pride or arrogance, he said this:

''Pastor Bob, God has really blessed me. I have MORE money than I know what to do with.''

Isn't that awesome?! When's the last time you heard someone say that and mean it? Like never, right? People share their struggles with me all the time, but that's about the best problem I've ever heard.

Seriously though, I was encouraged by that because many of us spend an inordinate amount of time trying to convince ourselves and others of how little we have and how much more we need. But that wasn't his heart at all. He knows he's rich and he's wrestling with 'why'? Internally he was asking, 'Why has God blessed me so much?'

Let me tell you something that may be hard to believe, but it's absolutely true. All of us have been given MORE than we need. Maybe not ALL we want. Maybe not equal to others. But our Heavenly Father has provided all of us MORE than we need. The question is why? Why would God the Father give all of His kids more than we personally need? That question is answered in Scripture for us by the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 9:8.

2 Corinthians 9:8: 'And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.' Why does God give more than we need?

Not to raise our standard of living, but to raise our standard of giving. God gives both the ability and opportunity to give and become more like Him. Last week we talked about how God is the ultimate giver and the Gospel is the ultimate generosity story.
