I'm excited this morning because I believe God has a very practical, personal word for each of you today. If you have a bible turn to Joshua 3. Let me give you context to understand and apply.

40 years earlier, God had used Moses to lead the nation of Israel out of Egypt where they were pressed into slavery by Pharaoh. But after escaping Egypt, two million Israelites got to the Red Sea and wondered how they would cross it. God miraculously opened it up, and the Israelites crossed through it on dry ground.

Once they crossed, it was only supposed to be a two-week trip to the Promised Land God was giving them. 2 weeks! That's how long it takes to walk from the Red Sea to the Land of Canaan. The Israelites must have been Baptist because in less than two weeks, they became disheartened by circumstances, disgruntled with leadership, and disobeyed God by wanting to go back to their old life rather than trusting God for a new future. Because of their hard hearts and lack of faith, God refused to let them enter Canaan and turned their two-week journey into a forty-year wandering in the wilderness.

That brings us to Joshua 3. When all of the older generation had died, God gave the next generation an opportunity to do what their parents wouldn't. He brings them to the edge of the Jordon River where they can see on the other side the same land of blessing God promised to give them. Their parents wouldn't believe God and trust God for it. Would they?

Here's the twist. It was the time of year the Jordon River was dangerously flooded. Normally it would only be little creek a few yards wide, but now it was a raging river over a mile wide. In other words, it was humanly impossible for them to cross over. So, you have a nation overlooking flood waters wondering how they would ever get to the other side.
