I.SPHERE "All the World"
We are to attempt to call people from one sphere into another -
the church.
One when the enthusiasm inside the church exceeds the
indifference outside the church are those outside going to want
to come inside.
Bobby Burns, Scottish poet, wrote on a song book in a church he
visited:
"As cold a wind as ever blew;
As cold a church, and in it but few;
As cold a minister as ever spake;
Ye'll all be hot ere I come back."
"The joy of the Lord is thy strength."
You can't bring souls to birth and help them grow in a
refrigerator even if you call it an incubator.
The preacher must take something warm out of his heart and
thrust it into the minds of the people.
John Roberts (Scotsman) told of a Scottish village in which
there was no fire. Soon they found fire in one home and shortly
the entire city had fire.
There are over 210,000,000 Americans. One third are not church
members. One half have not been to church this year. Many are
waiting for a warm hearted personal invitation to come to
Christ.
A survey taken in our church in January 1982 showed what
hasattracted people to our church. The second most influential
factor was TV. Not everyone can have a TV ministry. One percent
was attracted by newspaper ads. The most influential attracting
factor was a personal invitation from a friend or neighbor. A
satisfied customer always makes the best salesperson.
