Worship God
Robert Dawson
Revelations 22:8-9
It was little Michael Emmanuel Jr's 6th birthday. Family and friends gathered to celebrate at the local Chuck E. Cheese in Boca Raton, Florida. The party was going well, kids were playing, parents were talking, and then party ended. That's when the trouble began. All the children and adults climbed into three different vehicles and headed home. Everyone, that is, except Michael.
Apparently, the 6-year old returned to the play area, and when everyone else departed, he was left behind. Employees found Michael wandering around the restaurant at 10pm and called the police. Michael's mom had assumed that her son was staying with his grandmother and didn't realize he was missing until the next morning. Unfortunately, Michael and his parents discovered it is possible to have a celebration and forget the guest of honor.
Sadly enough, that is true for us as well, in life and in church. We gather each week for a celebration and yet often lose sight of the One we've gathered to celebrate and honor. We go about our daily lives, diving into the grind, and forget why we exist and the one we are to make much of with our lives. Churches produce ministry after ministry and participate in service after service and forget the one we are called to worship.
If we are not careful, we will lose sight of the very thing that drives us and fuels our pursuit of God's purpose and His best for our lives and this faith family. We do not exist for our own purposes but God's. Remember, we exist to Exalt, Equip and Evangelize.
What I want us to do today is pick up on and expand one of the points from last week's message concerning the priority of worship. Worship is our highest priority because everything else flows out of and is encompassed in this one great purpose.
- Our efforts in the equipping of the saints and the evangelization of this world are themselves acts of worship.
- Worship is the fountain head for all that we d ...
