Today we finish our series on the Holy Spirit. And today's topic is one that I know some of you have been waiting for; it's the thing that's most interesting to you; because it's all about how God guides us and helps us to make decisions in our lives. Have you ever heard somebody say, ''God told me...X''? Or even when they don't say it that blatantly, some people just seem very sure about God's guidance, right? Back in college, when I was dating Norma Jean, she was serving on a mission team. And there was a guy on the team she had just met, and he came up to her and said, ''You know, I really feel like God has brought you into my life, and He's leading us to be together.'' And she said, ''You know, God's not leading me that way at all.'' That was a good answer, by the way. She was very in tune with the Holy Spirit. But how does all that work? Does God lead people in specific ways like that? Or are we just supposed to use biblical principles and wisdom to figure things out? That's what we're going to talk about today.

So, let's read the Scripture. It's actually just one verse-Galatians 5, verse 25: Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. This is the Word of God.

What does it mean to ''keep in step with the Spirit''? When you look at the early church in the book of Acts, it's obvious that the Holy Spirit was directing and guiding them. So let's look at a few examples, and see if we can learn anything about how this works.

The first example is in Acts chapter 8. Philip, one of the early church leaders, was walking down the road. And up ahead on the road, he saw this man riding in a chariot. And in Acts 8:29, it says, The Spirit told Philip, ''Go to that chariot and stay near it.'' So Philip runs up to the chariot, and it winds up being this God-ordained meeting where the very first African person comes to faith in Christ. Clearly God's w ...
