Who or What are You?

One of the most often questions asked to young people (at least when I was a 'young people') was, ''What do you want to be when you grow up?'' Think with me about the times you have heard that question and the answers you gave. For older folks, this would have been doctor, lawyer, fireman, and the like. As the years have passed those answers have changed but what has not changed is the question and the dreams behind the answers. Dreams and realities are far apart.
My question today is not 'what do you want to be' but rather 'what are you?' The caveat is this; ''What are you in the eyes of God?'' In the Bible, we clearly find what our options are?
To study the scripture in any serious way is to discover that American has a different view of life, purpose, church, and even Christianity than scripture teaches, both inside and outside of the church.
In a 1993 George Barna survey entitled, ''The Day America told the Truth'' we see a picture of how people outside the church view people who make up the church, and it's not pretty.
This is important because Our Lord Jesus has a way for us to live and a plan for us to live out. His plan includes His people living lives that point people to Him. We are to live, act, walk and talk differently, so they want to become like us. That is Jesus' plan and desire for His followers. It is like was written in Acts, where it says, ''They were first CALLED Christian at Antioch.'' They were called Christian because of their attitude, actions, and activities - everything reminded the people of what they had heard about Jesus. Contrast this to that 1993 Barna report.
In that report it was revealed that those outside the church gave 2 primary Characteristics to those inside the church; 1) We attend Church and, 2) We are very judgmental. YIKES!! Yes, we must stand on the truth of God's word, but if we are following Christ, we should be being Christ-l ...
