WHAT THEY SEE IS WHAT THEY HEAR
MATTHEW 7: 24-27
JESUS CHRIST spoke of foundations for life. On a recent flight
my seat companion was Dr. Charles L. Allen, Pastor of First
Methodist Church of Houston, Texas. As he reminisced, we talked
of the family. He was wisely passed on four foundational factors
related to the family. They are:
I.THE POISONOUS IMPRESSION THAT ONLY THE PRESENT IN IMPORTANT
There is more to life than what can be seen on this side of the
hill.
The museum of your mind is being stocked with life lasting
memories. Be kind to your tomorrow self.
II.THE FATAL IMPRESSION THAT FAILURE IS FINAL
One purpose of preaching is to put hope back into life. One
broken dream doesn't mean the end of all dreaming. There is a
difference in an adjective and a noun. There is a difference in
saying, "I failed" and "I am a failure." It is not important
that you be THE BEST. It is vital that you be YOUR best.
In Alfred Sutro's, "A Mark of Men", a husband comes home after
missing a promotion and says, "I see other men getting on, what
have I done?" His wife replied, "You have made a woman love you.
You have given me respect for you, and admiration, and loyalty
and devotion - everything a man can give his wife, except
luxury, and that I don't need. Still you call yourself a
failure, who within these four walls are the greatest success?"
III.THE DUMB IMPRESSION THAT DRINKING ISN'T DANGEROUS
