What comes to mind when the book of Revelation is mentioned? The rapture? Judgment, the Four Horsemen, or perhaps 666? Or even the Second Coming, the Antichrist, or Heaven? People have an emotional reaction to the book of Revelation. Some say it's scary while others believe it's confusing.

Revelation is the one book people want to hear ''preached on'' the most and it's the one book pastors love to avoid! When considering the book of Revelation and the end of times, some of us think about the Left Behind series (which sold an estimated 75 million copies) or the runaway best seller, The Late Great Planet Earth. Left Behind will be a major movie release later this year on October 3 and will star Nicholas Cage. My aim is to help rescue the book from those who completely misinterpret it or completely ignore it.

While Revelation is God's last words in all of His Bible it is also a strange book where many either make everything of it or they make nothing of it. The power of this book is seen in what it does to people as few books have impacted people as the book of Revelation. You don't have search the radio and TV airwaves long before you'll find sensationalistic interpretations that connect Revelation to Russia, Syria, oil in the Middle East, the modern state of Israel, and volcanic eruptions. Revelation made the news during the election of as President of the United States, as many made him the leading candidate for the role of the Antichrist.

The Influence of Revelation

Revelation is also perhaps the least-understood words in the entire Bible. Yet, this is one of the most engaging books in all of the Bible. John's book has inspired numerous sermons, artistic works and even musical compositions such as the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's oratorio Messiah (1742), Holy, Holy, Holy (1826), and Crown Him with Many Crowns (1852).
