Philippians 1:27
Philippians 1:27 Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel
Paul wrote this letter to the church. It was not written to church leaders or to a select few. It was written to the entire church. The Philippian church was a mature church. There was a deep love Paul had for them and they had for Paul. They didn't have behavior issues like the Corinthian church or doctrinal issues like the Galatian church, they were a model church. I believe God chose us to read and study this letter to the Philippians because you too are a church who loves the Lord and O how He loves you. You have grown tremendously in the Lord and are ready to go higher in the Lord. I am reading this to you today because it applies to you and to me. When we study the Word of God, we must understand the context and the culture in which it was written. What Paul the Apostle wrote to the different churches in his apostleship were written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, so it is for us to receive.
What Paul wrote in vs 27 to ''let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ'' reminds me of what he wrote to other churches:
Ephesians 4:1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called
Colossians 1:10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God
1 Thessalonians 2:12 that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
We learned a few weeks ago that we are all called. There is a calling on every person's life. It is a calling to follow Jesus. It is a calling to live for Jesus. It is a calling to live a life set apart from the r ...
