WOULD YOU HAVE LET JESUS BORROW YOUR DONKEY?
MATTHEW 21: 1 - 11
JESUS CHRIST's entire earthly ministry needed a donkey in His
final hours to authenticate His role as the Son of God who had
come to seek and to save. He was a living fulfillment of every
prophecy related to the birth and life of Messiah. The one who
was to deliver His people from their sin. Yet prior to His death
and resurrection, one small element was missing. Centuries
earlier the prophet, Zecharias (9:9), had predicted He would
come to the golden city riding on a colt of a donkey. Let's
recapture the scene.
It was the season of the year to celebrate the Passover. Many
pilgrims always came to this festive religious celebration. A
census made revealed that 25,000 lambs were slain on this
occasion. According to custom, a minimum of 10 persons were
required to eat of each lamb. That means there were over
2,500,000 people in the city.
To a casual reader this event might seem to be unorganized.
However, Jesus gave to it a kind of Divine decorum.
I.PROVISION, Matthew 21:3 - "The Lord hath need of them..."
One of the most joyous days of your life will be when you
realize the Lord has need of you.
Disciples, 2 remained unnamed. Who we are is unimportant. Whose
we are is very important. As is the mission on which He has sent
us.
Donor - "Straightway" he sent the donkeys. Jesus knew where the
resources were that He needed. He had the authority tocommand
it. He gave the option to refuse it. He had the integrity to
make His request through His disciples. He had the honesty and
justice to return it.
