''Chariots of Fire'' is a British movie that was released in 1981, and it tells the true story of two British athletes who ran in the 1924 Olympics in Paris, France. Harold Abrahams, a Jew, ran to overcome prejudice, and Eric Liddell, the son of Scottish missionaries, ran for the glory of God.

Eric Liddell qualified for the Olympics with the fastest time in the 100-meters race. But when the team arrived in France he discovered that the heats for the 100-meters were scheduled for Sunday. Liddell refused to run because of his conscience. ''Sunday is the Sabbath,'' said Liddell, ''And that would violate the fourth commandment.''

8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.
11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Have you ever noticed that the other commands are stated without further comment? The fourth commandment, however, receives four verses of explanation!

Listen to some of the other commands: Thou shalt not have any other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images. Thou shalt not take the name of the name of the Lord thy God in vain. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness.

Do you see how plain and simple the others are? But when it comes to the Sabbath, suddenly God hovers like a helicopter over an accident scene. And he not only states the command, he provides a logical explanation in defense of it.
