JOHN 16: 16 - 33

I.COMPLETE COMPREHENSION
A little while and you shall see (BEHOLD) me and again a little
while and you shall see (COMPREHEND) me. The resurrection and as
would confirm Him as Messiah, teacher, master, Savior, Lord. "A
little while" - some things cannot be understood immediately,
patience was required until Pentecost. "Travail", often agony is
encountered in the process of emerging truth. He forewarned them
of the travail, as a mother's, they would experience in the
crucifixion. He also assured them of the joy, like unto
motherhood, they would have when they beheld Him resurrected.
Job, the oldest book in the Bible, spoke of His resurrection.
Abraham, on the occasion of evidencing his willingness to offer
Isaac, depicted it.
To have Christ without the O.T. is to have an unexplainable
Christ. To have the O.T. without Christ is to have an
unintelligible testament.
II.CLEAR COMMUNICATION (Vss. 23 - 26)
"That day" - the day of Pentecost. The resurrection followed by
the coming of the Holy Spirit would answer their questions about
Messiahship.
Vs. 23 - The first ASK mean "to question". They will understand.
The second ASK means "to request".
Vs. 24 - They have quizzed Jesus many times about Hisbeliefs and
teachings. After Pentecost, the Father revealed Christ and His
teachings. A new prayer life was made available. Effective
prayer requires:
(1)"Ask the Father". The title always implies a warm, personal
relationship. It is friend to friend. This requires shared love
and, hence, shared resources, lives, ...
