We Are Gospel-Centered (1 of 4)
Series: Foundations

1 Corinthians 15:3
Today we're starting a four-week series called 'Foundation'. We're going to look at four foundational elements of who we have been, who we are, and who we will be as a people saved through God's Son, soaked with God's Spirit, and sent on God's mission.
Part 1: We are a Gospel Centered church. Our mission statement is this:
We are a Gospel-Centered Church making disciples of Jesus Christ.
That's as simple, biblical, and practical as we can put it. That is both our identity and our activity. That is who we are and what we do. Admittedly, the term Gospel-Centered, is everywhere right now. You can find books on Gospel-Centered anything. Gospel-Centered marriage, Gospel-centered parenting, Gospel-Centered praying, Gospel-Centered dating, Gospel-Centered golfing. Well, maybe not that.
But its popularity doesn't diminish its validity, nor its value. I pray long after the term loses its popularity it is still be our priority. For that to happen, we have to be super clear on what Gospel-Centered means and what it does. I think there are at least three important attributes and activities that are found in every Gospel Centered Church. First, A Gospel-Centered Church...
1. PREACHES THE GOSPEL CONFIDENTLY. (and Repeatedly)
In 1 Corinthians 15:3, the Apostle Paul reminds us that the gospel should be of first importance.
''I passed on to you what was most important...Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.''
Paul consistently did one thing no matter where he was, no matter what the cost, and no matter who was in the audience: He boldly and unapologetically proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus.
He preached the Gospel to the Jews. He preached the Gospel to the Gentiles.
He preached the Gospel to religious leaders. He preached the Gospel to idol worshippers.
He preached the Gospel to the hungry hearted. He preached the Gospel to the hard hearted.
