1 Peter 4:1-11
Please open your bible to 1 Peter 4. Jesus told one of His most well-known parables in Matthew 25 that is known as the Parable of the Talents. In that parable, Jesus said there will be some who stand before God and because of the way they faithfully and obediently served Him with their lives they will hear these wonderful words spoken to them, '...Well done, good and faithful servant!'
Wouldn't it be awesome for Jesus in eternity to look lovingly at you and say, ''I know it wasn't easy, but I'm so pleased by how you lived for Me and how you served My people. Well done good and faithful servant! Let me show you what I have prepared for you.'' Wouldn't that be incredible?!
Ever since I was a kid, I've heard people say and pray that they desperately want to hear those words spoken to them when they stand before God to give an account of their lives. But here's what you DON'T hear very often. What does a person have to do, how does a person have to live, how does a follower of Christ need to serve to hear those words from our Lord? You see, I think there are lots of people who hope to hear those words from Jesus, but they have no idea what is expected of them.
We are in a series called 'Foundation' and we are looking at four foundational elements that give our ministry direction and intentionality. These are the targets we are aiming our church and our lives at day in and day out. We are not saying we do any of these perfectly, but these are the bullseye we know God wants us to aim at continually.
Week 1: We Are Gospel Centered (The Gospel both saves us and sustains us. Simple and Deep)
Week 2: We are Missionally Engaged. (The family of God is to be on mission of being witnesses.)
Week 3: We Are Faithful Servants. This is not our assessment of ourselves. This is our aim. This is our desire. We know this is what Jesus wants and expect of us.
