JOY TO THE WORLD
Matthew 2:1-12

I. Christ's Birth
A. Jesus Christ's birth left angels rejoicing, shepherds seeking,and wise men engaged in a quest, search and discovery. Followers
of Christ are still rejoicing over His coming, seeking to
serve Him, and wisely worshipping Him.
B. The chronology of the events related to Christ's birth
often are compacted in our modern thought into a few hours or
days. Actually, the visit of the wise men may have happened 2 years
after His birth. Herod ordered all male children under 2 years
of age killed. When they arrived Mary and Joseph were no longer
in the manger but in a house.
C. A visit to the cathedral of Calone (Germany today) will enable
one to see the burial place of these wise worshippers.
They were astrologers from the West. They were followers of
Zoaraster. They saw His star in the East and followed it.
They thought they were informed intellectuals, but they still lacked
knowledge about the Christ child. It was their inquiring minds
that drew them to Him.
D. They came seeking one "Born King of the Jews."
Finding Him resulted in: GREAT JOY. Joy is never an end in itself.
To seek it is like searching for the elusive pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Joy is the by-product of a right relationship with Christ, the outcome of
daily obedience.
