Ephesians 5: 1 - 2
Someone said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. To imitate someone is to pay the person a genuine compliment. There are people who have imitated in their life a behavior, a work ethic, or a life ethic of someone that they admired.
This 5th chapter of Ephesians begins with one of the most startling admonition in the New testament.
Be Imitators of God!
That is what Paul is saying to the church at Ephesus, even though the church of Ephesus was founded or established by the Apostle Paul, he was in many ways their Senior Pastor, he taught them, helped shape them in the faith, he preached to them, but Paul was really clear, he desired that they imitate God.
The late Dr. Albert Schweitzer, the famous missionary, medical doctor, and musician was asked, ''What is the best way to raise children?'' He replied, ''There are three ways: First by example, secondly, by example, and thirdly by example.'' Dr. Spock said that children often learn by seeing and hearing, and those two are the greatest examples.
I am told that my granddaughter mimics my preaching. She has seen me when it's streaming or through videos she has seen, but she mimics her daddy as well. Children takes on patterns like their parents. Girls learns something about dressing like their mother or cooking like they were taught or saw their mother do. Boys learn as well from their father's ways. Children can be imitators of good or ill.
Six-year-old Jenny complained to her mother of a tummyache. The mother replied, ''That's because your tummy is empty; you have not put anything in it today You just wanted to do this and that, and you did not want to stop to eat. You will feel better if there was something in it.''
