Grab your bible and turn to John 8. No doubt, most of you have seen these weird shaped light bulbs. Light bulbs come in all shapes, sizes, colors. They have been out for a few years now, and they're pretty remarkable. It says on the package that with the right conditions they are guaranteed to last 11 years. Can you imagine keeping your receipt for 9 or 10 years and taking this light bulb back in to Wal-Mart and saying, ''This thing only lasted 9 years. I want my money back.'' As a former Wal-Mart manager, I guarantee you it will happen.
If you are pregnant, you could put one of these light bulb in the baby room, and you won't have to change it again until that boy or girl is in middle school...11 years from now. That's pretty amazing isn't it?
But you know, this light bulb is nothing compared to another light bulb I found out about this week called the Centennial Light Bulb in Livermore, CA. In the fire station in Livermore, CA there is a light bulb called the Centennial bulb that has been burning for over 110 years now. Would you like to see a picture of it? (SHOW PICTURE)
It's a four-watt bulb that was made by the now defunct Shelby Electric Company out of Ohio. Because of its longevity, it is now in the Guinness Book of World Records. It's been in four locations and has only been turned off a handful of times. That's an incredible light! Makes this 11-year light bulb blush.
But really, that's nothing. I want us to look at a light today that holds the all-time shine record and I promise you it will never be beaten by another light ever. This Light we're going to talk about has been shining, not 11 years, not 110 years, but it's been shining from eternity past to eternity future. And we have a picture of this light as well. All you have to do is open your bible. This Light is the Light of the World...Jesus Christ.
