Take your bible and turn to John 10. You know there are a lot of people these days who are confused about what the Bible teaches. Bible literacy has gone down drastically the last few years. That was painfully obvious in South Carolina where a Bible quiz given to middle school students. Listen to some humorous answers they gave.

1. Noah's wife was Joan of Ark. (Her name was Mrs. Noah)

2. Moses went to the top of Mt. Cyanide to get the 10 Commandments. (Sinai)

3. The seventh commandment is, ''Thou shalt not admit adultery.'' (That one's being obeyed all the time)

4. Solomon had 300 wives and 700 porcupines. (Concubines)

5. Unleavened bread is bread without ingredients.

6. The followers of Jesus were called the 12 decibels.

7. Joshua fought the battle of Geritol. (We all fight that battle eventually.)

8. A Christian should have only one wife. This is called monotony. (I'm not touching that.)

As Christians, we're never going to know everything about the Bible. We're not going to know every name, and every place, and every principle by heart. There will always be some things we struggle to comprehend. But you know what? We can't afford to be confused about who Jesus is. If you get that wrong, nothing else matters. But if you get it right about Jesus, everything else will eventually workout.

That's what this series is all about. We want to deepen our awareness of who Jesus is and what's He's done and is doing for us. We want to deepen our appreciation of His mission in this world and recognize we have a part in it as well. And we want to deepen our affection for Him. Because you can't really love Jesus until you know Him. But you will love Him more when you know Him better.
