Yogi Berra, NY Yankee legend and MLB Hall of Fame catcher, was one of the most beloved and memorable characters in all of sports. In addition to being a great ballplayer, he was known for his wit, especially his little sayings which came to be called ''Yogiisms.'' In talking about all the quips attributed to him Yogi said, ''I never said most of the things I said.'' I want to share just a few with you.

- (Some of you can relate to this one). I usually take a 2-hour nap from 1-4.
- Never answer an anonymous letter. (Something every pastor can relate to).
- You should always go to other people's funerals, otherwise, they won't come to yours.

Perhaps one of his most famous statements is, ''Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.'' While the math is wrong the sentiment is spot on. It is true not only in sports but in life. The greatest battles we fight in this life are the ones fought between our ears.

- No struggle in life is ever purely physical, economic or relational.
- Every one of those struggles become mental battles and it is in our minds that life's greatest battles are won or lost. (We know people who have faced great physical adversity, horrific relational issues or economic setbacks only to come out the other side stronger, productive and inspirational. They won the mental battle).

Psychologist Archibold Hart said, ''Research shows that one's thought-life influences every aspect of our being. Proverbs 23.7 tells us, ''As a man thinks within himself, so he is.'' Our thoughts are the father of our actions. Our unseen and unheard thoughts give birth to visible actions and audible words. They give rise to attitudes that are tangibly communicated in our posture, facial expressions and tone of voice.
