Begin With The End In Mind
Jerry Watts
2 Chronicles 7:12-15
In his book, ''Seven Habits for the Highly Effective Person'', businessman Steven Covey tells us to do things like, ''Be Proactive'', ''Think Win/Win'', Seek to Understand, that to be understood, synergize (a 2-bit work for ''work together'' cooperate), and Sharpen the Saw (get better at what you are doing). Even though I like each one of these 'habits', the one which jumps out at me to change the focus of God's people is this, ''Begin with the end in mind.'' This is not brain surgery because we use this principle every day in our fields, flowerbed, and family. Why not in our faith?
Look around, our country, culture, communities, and churches are all on a downward spiral and the issues are too many to name. It is no accident or coincidence that when the church is hurting that the culture follows suite. Sadly, it seems that the church has lost her way. Jesus' church is to be always on the move, always changing, always spirit-filled, always powerful, and always setting the standard for the culture. Our country, culture, and OUR CHILDREN need for us, this generation, to awaken spiritually and seek the Lord for the healing of our land. I've said this before, the answer is not in the Whitehouse, it is in God's house, starting with God's people.
Consider with me for a time, ''What is it that I would like more than anything else?'' What would I like for my children, my grands, my great grands, as we as for this nation? That kind of thinking may touch our hearts in ways we have never considered. Let's read our text and hear the Bible.
2 Chronicles 7:12- 15. (Read) Let's re-Read verse 14. Most of the time we read a verse, we start with the first word, phrase, and/or sentence, and work thought it to discover what our Lord is communicating to us. We are going to do this a little different because the day demands it.
