A Boneyard Revival

This is the 2nd year that I have been privileged to be with you. Last year, I did what the Alfords have done in this service, led in worship. I am honored at the invitation to return.
As long as I remember, in the church, we have set aside weeks or days which we called, ''REVIVAL.'' Think about that word. What does it mean to you? To most people it means a 'meeting.' It used to be 2-weeks (or so), then 5 days, then we went to weekends, and today we have ONE-DAY meetings. I have not come to lodge my complaint about 'why have we shortened these events' because there is not one of us in this room who needs another meeting to attend. We are busy people. But I will NOT EVER back away from this one truth: We do need ONE MORE MEETING. We don't necessarily need a week and call it ''Revival'', what we need is a meeting with HOLY GOD! That will be a Revival. Five seconds in the presence of Holy God would do it.
Now, Think again about Revival. The prefix is 're' which means 'do it again'. Then ''Vival'' which come from the root word is ''VIVE''. Vive is taken (as best I can tell) from the late 1500's when the French used the word ''VIVE''' Vive the King, the Queen, France, etc. It literally means ''Long Live the ____''. In other words, ''May that live continue, grow, and expand. So the impact of revival to 'do again a life that continues, grows, and expands.'' In our context, we're talking about spiritual life. Here's the reason I started here. We cannot get REVIVED or have life again until we have been ''VIVED'' and have had life in the first place, again spiritual, vibrant, and an exciting life.
Sadly, in too many places today, we think we have the best, are living the best, and expect to get the best because we, as Americans, have been extraordinarily blessed. We don't know what it is to be in 'need.' Yes, we can want (and do) but to be in NEED is something entirely different. We have been duped by our prosperi ...
