Margaret McDonald Bottome was an American Columnist, but she is more known for being the organizer and founder of what became known as the International Order of the King's Daughters and Sons. That organization became known for its charitable work and support for hospitals, homes for the elderly, children care centers. Its membership at one point reached globally over a half billion of members. Mrs. Bottome was elected President for over two decades to lead the organization as President because of her zeal for the cause and Christ.
Bottom spoke all over the world about the work and mission of her organization. She spoke as well about her faith and how she understood and learned to be a real follower and disciple of Christ. Her faith in Christ was never a question, and her loyalty and love for the church were without a doubt one of commitment.
But in one of her speeches, she shared how she learned and came to understand how to be the Lord's disciple and how to be a genuine follower of Christ. It was an experience in her life that taught her how to do that. She said, on her first far east trip that she was taking, leading a group of faithful believers to witness and talk about the organization was when she learned the lesson. As she and the group arrived at the place of departure, she was met by the person that would serve as her guide throughout the trip. The guide approached her and the group and told them that he was assigned to be their guide on this long trip until they reached their destination and returned home. The guide was responsible for ensuring that their needs were met and that they got to the destination.
She said that there were three simple lessons she learned on that trip that also guided her spiritual discipleship in Christ.
