Deuteronomy 11:26-28
Adrian Rogers tells about the man who bragged that he had cut off the tail of a man-eating lion with his pocket knife. Asked why he hadn't cut off the lion's head, the man replied: ''Someone had already done that.''
Joshua 1:6-9 (NASB95) 6''Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7''Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. 8''This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. 9''Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.''
The inspiration for starting a series on courage (and starting with obedience) was the thought I had in prayer... Many times I know what the will of God is, but it takes courage to obey...
We see in the passage above that being courageous was the key to Joshua leading the present generation, the key to fulfilling promise to the previous generation and also the admonition to be obedient...which can take some courage to do!
1- To be courageous is an order
2- To be courageous is a must.

3- To be courageous, you must be aware that God is the one who is responsible for the outcome.
I want to continue this morning with the theme of obedience...
We present obedience most all the time in a negative light...It certainly takes courage many times to obey...but the blessing is amazing as it positions us differently under the things of God...
